I remember after the CUNTS beat us in Cardiff they all kept coming over to our fans totally genuinely saying well played good game etc. On their fans forums i remember loads of stories about how nasty our fans apparently were when they came to congratulate us and they couldn't understand it! Weird sort of delusion. The face of sanitised football maybe, who knows.
Mind you, Everton are totally different. They hate everyone. Just like us.

I spent a lot of time in Liverpool a few years back due to my Sister living up there. You are dead right,the actual Scousers on their own patch were no problem,i watched many a game up there and never had a peep of trouble ir attitude. Drank and talked football with them and had more than one good night out with them .

The ironic and weird thing is that I bet if you were watching it in a pub in Liverpool full of Liverpool fans, you'd have got no such attitude.
Along with their arrogant "everyone loves us" delusions they're also really overly friendly which makes them annoyingly difficult to hate. More like rugby fans. Or JWs.
Before anyone starts yes I'm sure it was very different in the 80s.

I went to a local pub to see them beat us in the seasons opener. Place was full of them and while it was still 0-0 Fab pulled off a decent save and i showed my approval, not hiding the fact that i was obviously Wedt Ham. One of them turned round and in a very non Scose accent told me to behave as i was in a Liverpool pub. I gave it a seconds thought then told him (very obvious east end accent) that he wad in fucking Wokingham (berks) how could it be a Liverpool pub. Also told him to listen to my accent,it had much in common with the club visiting Anfield. He didnt say much after that.

Could be that a number of the press are from the era when Liverpool where a force in Europe when football was a proper, contact game, and there wasn’t so much on telly.
I had a soft spot for all British teams in Europe at that time...Liverpool,Villa,Ipswich....Forest(?).

When they interviewed Liverpool fans before and after the Champions League final, roughly about 10 interviewees, I think I heard 1 scouse voice.
And I can fully understand why they think everyone loves them, every single thing heard and read in the media tells them that.
I detest the club more than any other.

My family are mostly Liverpool fans and many of them fly over from Ireland for home games and go to away games all over Europe. You'll Never Walk Alone was played at my sister's funeral.
It's true what Mashed said - they do tend to think they're special and everyone loves Liverpool. I hold my whist.

Strange thing is Eerie that a lot of these fans do also support their local team. When they have cup games against smaller teams it's not unusual for people to travel up and not be too fussed about who wins.
Also on Liverpool home games the city centre is crawling with Norwegian and Irish fans in replica tops who fly over for every game. Plus coaches of Chinese. And of course fans from across the country. And about 50% of the Liverpool/Merseyside catchment area.
Got to be one of the biggest supported teams in the world.
Difference between them and Man United is that ManU fans know everyone hates them, Liverpool fans think everyone else loves them.

The waiting list for Liverpool season tickets is something like 15-20 years long.
There are options for people to buy their way further up the list as well.
It's quite a ridiculous situation. I know of a couple of people who were bought a place on the ST list as kids and are still waiting.

Yarmouth, try avoiding punditry. For example don’t watch the run up to a game or the half time analysis or end of match post mortems. Avoid programmes like talk sport as well.
You will feel so much better and will have missed out on diddly squat. And the only way you’ll know about media bias is when someone has a rant on here.

Because thy were the dominant team in the 80's, loads of people in top jobs throughout the media support them, and they control most of the content put out, and decide what former players get to be pundits. I mean, what sane person would make Jamie Carragher one of the main men on Sky? At least the dribbling Jamie 'He's a top, top player' Redknapp looks the part.
They are probably the 'best' supported team in the country. By that I mean glory hunting at it's finest from back in the day. I hope the crash and burn every season, sadly it doesn't look like it this year.

All over the years ,we’ve had the Surrey etc based supporting Man U fans which is taken as what it is,something that we’ve been brought up with laugh at but can handle ,now it’s your southern based never been near fuckin Merseyside in their lives plastic Liverpool ‘fans’ that does my head in !

I'd imagine it's to do with their historic success and how much of a huge club they are.
ManU used to be the media darlings under Ferguson.
